Across South Australia, four-wheel drive vehicles are commonly used across industries such as mining, construction, agriculture, utilities, defence, and environmental services, particularly in areas where sealed roads end and more demanding terrain begins. Without the right training, navigating remote tracks, unstable ground, and off-road environments can quickly become a serious safety issue for both operators and crews on site.
Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA) and WHS Regulations 2012 (SA), employers are responsible for making sure workers are competent to safely operate workplace vehicles and equipment. SafeWork SA recognises vehicles as workplaces in their own right, which means businesses must identify hazards, assess risks, and provide appropriate training for workers expected to operate 4WD vehicles in off-road or remote environments.
Link Resources delivers this training from our Adelaide facility in Hendon, using practical, industry-focused methods that reflect the terrain and operational demands South Australian workers actually face on the job.

You walk in with no certification and walk out with three nationally recognised units of competency. The course is structured to cover everything required in a single, efficient day.
Link Resources has purpose-built training facilities all across Australia to meet your specific training requirements.
This course goes beyond a standard driver’s licence to provide nationally recognised competency in operating 4WD vehicles in field and remote conditions. It is required by many employers and site operators in mining, construction, oil and gas, and environmental sectors before workers can operate 4WDs on site.
Nationally recognised units do not have a formal expiry date, but many employers and site operators require periodic refresher training, particularly if there has been a significant gap in vehicle use or if workers are moving into new terrain types or operational environments. Check with your employer or site principal for their specific requirements.
The course covers a range of recovery techniques used in professional field operations, including the correct use of snatch straps, recovery points, and anchorage systems. Participants learn how to assess a recovery situation safely before acting, how to position recovery equipment correctly, and how to carry out extractions without creating additional risk to themselves or crew members.
Yes. The course is designed to accommodate participants with no prior 4WD experience as well as those looking to formalise existing skills. The structured practical training program starts with fundamentals and builds progressively, so participants at all experience levels come away with a solid, assessable competency.
Yes. The course includes both practical and written assessment components. Participants are assessed on their ability to safely operate a 4WD vehicle, apply safe driving practices, follow WHS procedures, and carry out practical off-road driving and recovery techniques in challenging conditions.
