Crystalline silica is a mineral found in many common building and industrial materials including concrete, stone, brick and sand. When these materials are cut, ground, drilled or disturbed, fine dust particles are released. Inhaling this dust over time can cause silicosis, an irreversible and potentially fatal lung disease.

Anyone who works with or near materials containing silica including concrete, stone, brick, tile and engineered stone; should complete silica awareness training. This includes construction workers, stonemasons, miners, landscapers and manufacturing workers.
